Approximately around 4:13pm PST on Thursday evening, July 29th, an excavator hit the main gas line while demolishing a structure. The gas line was not turned off as it had been hit before the meter so no local residents or businesses had their gas shut off. Santa Monica Fire Department responded to assist SoCal gas with exposing the gas line as well as ensure the safety of nearby residents and businesses if a fire did start. Santa Monica Fire Department Engines 2 & 5 were first due, additional resources were called which were Battalion 1, Engine 1, Truck 1, Air/Light Rescue Unit 1, and a McCormick Ambulance was also dispatched to the scene. No injuries were reported, SoCal Gas has repaired the gas line at this current time,
and gas is restored to all residents if it was shut off for any nearby residences.
